Now in our modern life, the proverb ―Silence is gold‖ is very popular among many people. They regard it as the principle of living in society. However, some other people disagree to it. They think that silence is not always gold.

For my part, keeping silent will make you miss out many opportunities to success. It can be shown as follows. First, if you always keep silent, people will see you as weak. They will look down on you. Secondly, keeping silent will make you get nothing. For example, you go to a job interview with many other people, if you keep silent and yield to other people, you‘ll not get your dreaming job.

Thirdly, silence keeps you from promotion. Even though you work hard enough and make a lot of profits, you‘ve never performed yourself, as a result, nobody knows you, so you can‘t expect to be promoted.

In a word, if you always keep silent, you‘ll lose too many chances in the modern life. Silence is not so fashionable as before. Stop being silent and stand out, you will find success is waiting for you ahead.

The Gap Between Rich and Poor in China

It is universally acknowledged that along with the rapid economic development, the gap between rich and poor in China is expanding at an alarming rate. The rich are richer and they lead an extravagant life while the poor hardly make their ends meet.

Three factors are involved in the creation of the increasing gap. Firstly, the economic reform leads to the widening gap. Because the economic reform enables the rich, who can equip themselves with higher education, to easily grasp the opportunities to make them wealthier. While, to the poor, the low level of their own education makes them hard to be competent in the competitive society. In

addition, income difference contributes a lot to this concern for the rich can earn money by different ways, such as fund, real estate, shares and so on. However, the poor can‘t afford such ways of making money. For this reason the rich is becoming richer and the poor is becoming poorer gradually. Finally, the illegal means of making money can‘t be ignored. Facing the temptation of money, some rich people in important positions break down their moral line to bribe and embezzle and they become richer and richer, eventually making the rich-poor gap wider and wider.

In conclusion, the tree factors above lead to the large gap between rich and poor. Confronting this issue, our government should perfect the economic policy, improve the taxation policy and strengthen the law to narrow the rich-poor gap.

Nowadays, taking part-time jobs is a very popular phenomenon among college students. Many students take jobs, such as a waiter, an assistant, and a tutor, to make full use of their free time.

There are two different opinions about this matter. On one hand, some people think it is a good experience for college students. Because students can make some money by taking a part-time job, so that they can relieve the burden of their parents. Meanwhile, taking a part-time job can make students be familiar with the working environment and improve their ability of dealing with different people and different matters. In a word, students can be more mature by taking part-time jobs. On the other hand, there are some people who hold the opposite opinion. They think that studying is the only business of students. Students should work hard to get a good mark, and taking part-time jobs is a waste of time. Personally, I think it is a good thing for college students to take a part-time job, as we can make full use of our spare time, and get a lost of precious experience. An Eyewitness Account of a Traffic Accident

The car accident happened at about 7：30 on the morning of April 6th, 2003 when I was on my way to school.

It was raining heavily, and the road was very slippery. Three little boys were going in front of me，each riding on a bike，talking loudly with each other while they rode. One of the boys didn?t wear a raincoat；instead he was holding an umbrella in one hand，and the handle of the bike in another. As he turned left to Hongqiao Road，a car came out at a high

speed from behind a truck parked on the corner. Both the boy and the driver acted quickly, but it was too late. I heard a big noise and saw the boy falling down and an umbrella thrown away. I was completely shocked.

I think three factors attributed to this tragedy.The first factor is the boy's absent mindedness. He was talking all the way，dangerously holding an umbrella while riding the bike. The second factor is the bad weather and the slippery road, which makes it hard for the driver to bring the car to a full stop abruptly. The last factor was the improperly parked truck, which was big enough to make the road conditions invisible to the driver and students who were going to make a turn.
