Creativity isn't always 53 with great works of art or ideas. People at work and in their free time 54 think of creative ways to solve problems. Maybe you have a goal to achieve, a tricky question to answer or you just want to expand your mind! Here are three techniques

to help you.

Making connections

This technique involves taking 55 ideas and trying to find links between them. First, think about the problem you have to solve or the job you need to do. Then find an image, word, idea or object, for example, a candle. Write down all the ideas/words 56 with candles: light, fire, matches, wax, night, silence, etc. Think of as many as you can. The next stage is to relate the 57_ to the job you have to do. So imagine you want

to buy a friend an original 58 you could buy him tickets to a match or take him out for

the night.

No limits!

Imagine that normal limitations don't 59 .You have as much time/space/money, etc. as you want. Think about your goal and the new 60 . If your goal is to learn to ski, 61 , you can now practise skiing every day of your life (because you have the time and the money). Now 62 his to reality. Maybe you can practise skiing every day in December, or every Monday

in January.

Be someone else!

Look at the situation from a 63 point of view. Good businessmen use this technique in trade, and so do writers.Fiction writers often imagine they are the 64 in their books. They ask questions: What does this character want? Why can't she get it? What changes must she make to get what she wants? If your goal involves other people, p ut yourself in their 65 .The best fishermen think like fish!

Ⅵ. Reading Comprehension (12%)

Chimps(黑猩猩)will cooperate in certain ways, like gathering in war parties to protect their territory. But beyond the minimum requirements as soc ial beings, they have little instinct (本能) to help one another. Chimps in the wild seek food for themselves. Even chimp mothers regularly decline to share food with their children. Who are able from a young age to gather their own food.

In the laboratory, chimps don’t naturally share food either. If a chimp is p ut in a cage where he can pull in one plate of food for himself or, with no great effort, a plate that also provides food for a neighbor to the next cage, he will pull at random﹣he just doesn’t care whether his neighbor gets fed or not. Chimps are truly selfish.

Human children, on the other hand are extremely corporative. From the earliest ages, they decide to help others, to share information and to participate a achieving common goals. The psychologist Michael Tomasello has studied this cooperativeness in a series of expensive with very young children. He finds that if babies aged 18months see an worried adult with hands full trying to open a door, almost all will immediately try to help.

There are several reasons to believe that the urges to help, inform and share are not taught. but naturally possessed in young children. One is that these instincts appear at a very young age before most parents have started to train children to behave socially. Another is that the helping behaviors are not improved if the children are remanded. A third reason is that social intelligence. Develops in children before their general cognitive(认知的)skills, at least when compared with chimps. In tests conducted by Tomasello, the children did no better than the chimps on the physical world tests, but were considerably better at understanding the social world.

The cure of what children’s minds have and chimps’ don’t in what Tomasello calls what. Part of this ability is that they can infer what others know or are thinking. But that, even very young children want to be part of a shared purpose. They actively seek to be part of a “we”, a group that intends to work toward a shared goal.

D.Chimps naturally share food with each other.

A.have the instinct to help others.

B.know how to offer help to adults.

C.know the world better than chimps.

D.trust adults with their hands full.

68.The passage is mainly about .

A.the helping behaviors of young children.

B.ways to train children’s shared intentionali ty.

Every man wants his son to be somewhat of a clone, not in features but in footsteps. As he grows you also age, and your ambitions become more unachievable. You begin to realize that your boy, in your footsteps, could probably accomplish what you hoped for. But footsteps can be muddied and they can go off in different directions.

My son Jody has hated school since day one in kindergarten. Science projects waited until the

last moment. Book reports weren’t written until the final threat.

I’ve been a newspaperman all my adult life. My daughter is a university graduate working toward her master’s degree in English. But Jody? When he entered the tenth grade he became a “vo﹣tech” student(技校学生). They’re called “motorheads” by the rest of the student body.

When a secretary in my office first called him “motorhead”, I was shocked. “Hey, he’s a good kid, ”I wanted to say. “And smart, really. ”

I learned later that motorheads are, indeed, different. They usually have dirty hands and wear dirty work clothes. And they don’t often make school honor rolls(光荣榜). But being the parent of a motorhead is itself an experience in education. We who labor in clean shi rts in offices don’t have the abilities that motorheads have. I began to learn

this when I had my car crashed. The cost to repair it was estimated at $800. “Hey, I can fix it, ”said Jody. I doubted it, but let him go ahead, for I had nothing to lose.

My son, with other motorheads, fixed the car. They got parts(零件) from a junkyard, non ﹣toasting toaster have been fixed. Neighbours and co﹣workers trust their car repair to him.

Since that first repair job, a broken air﹣conditioner, a non﹣functioning washer and a non﹣toasting toaster have been fixed. Neighbors and co﹣workers trust their car repairs to him.

These kids are happiest when doing repairs. They joke and laugh and are living in their own relaxed world. And their minds are bright despite their dirty hands and clothes.

I have learned a lot from my motorhead:publishers need printers, engineers need mechanics, and architects need builders. Most important, I have learned that fathers don’t need clones in footsteps or anywhere else.

My son may never make the school honor roll. But he made mine.

69. What used to be the author’s hope for his son?

A.To avoid becoming his clone.

B.To resemble him in appearance.

C.To develop in a different direction.

D.To reach the author’s unachieved goals.

70. In the author’s eyes, motorheads are __________.

A.tidy and hardworking

https://www.docsj.com/doc/bf3002573.html,zy but bright

B.cheerful and smart

D.relaxed but rude

71. What did the author realize in the end?

A.It is unwise to expect your child to follow your path.

B.It is import ant for one to make the honor roll.

C.Architects play a more important role than builders.

D.Motorheads have greater ability than office workers.

In the United States alone, over 100 million cell-phones are thrown away each year.Cell-phones are part of a growing mountain of electronic waste like computers and personal digital assistants. The electronic waste stream is increasing three times faster than traditional garbage as a whole.

Electronic devices contain valuable metals such as gold and silver.A Swiss study reported that while the weig ht of electronic goods represented by precious metals was relatively small in comparison to total waste, the concentration(含量)of gold and other precious metals was higher in so-called e-waste than in naturally occurring minerals.

Electronic wastes also contain many poisonous metals.Even when the machines are recycled and the harmful metals removed, the recycling process often is carried out in poor countries,in practically uncontrolled ways which allow many poisonous substances to escape into the environment.

Creating products out of raw materials creates much more waste material, up to 100 times more, than the material contained in the finished products. Consider again the cell-phone, and imagine the mines that produced those metals, the factories needed to make the box and packaging (包装)it came in. Many wastes produced in the producing process are harmful as well.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency notes that most waste is dangerous in that “ the production, distribu tion, and use of products―as well as management of the resulting waste―all result in greenhouse gas release.” Individuals can reduce their contribution by creating less waste at the start―for instance, buying reusable products and recycling.

In many countries the concept of extended producer responsibility is being considered or has

been put in place as an incentive(动机)for reducing waste. If producers are required to take back packaging they use to sell their products, would they reduce the packaging in the first place?

Governments’ incentive to require producers to take responsibility for the packaging they produce is usually based on money. Why, they ask, should cities or towns be responsible for paying to deal with the bubble wrap(气泡垫)that encased your television?
