What time of a day do you feel most alert(清醒的)? Are you more of a morning person? Or does your head need a few hours to start to work? A lot of studies show that our work in a day has to do with our body clock. It can tell us what time of a day we are best able to work, according to the study.

When it comes to the human brain(大脑), many people work best later in the morning. This is because the body temperature takes time to get higher through the day. Taking a warm shower when you wake up can help make this faster.

But everyone’s body clock is different. Morning people will get up early and work better early in the day. Evening people will wake later but their brain will work better at the end of the day.

Studies show that we’re better at some activities at certain times of the day. Physical performance is at its best between 3 pm and 6 pm, so it’s better to exercise later in the day.

Between noon and 4 pm, people begin to get distracted(思想不集中的). This is partly because our brain becomes less alert after we eat a big meal. Studies also show that we become sleepy around 2 pm.

Marco Polo was born in Italy in 1254. When he was 17 years old, he always travelled across Europe and Asia with his father, who wanted to do trade with the Chinese. At last, they arrived in Beijing. Whe n the teacher came, I asked Ben to talk about his feelings. He then said that he knew he was a very, very bad boy, and he didn’t think anyone could ever like him. His teacher listened to him. Then she gave him a big warm hug(拥抱), telling him she didn’t hate him at all and she wanted to forgive (原谅) him. In fact, she cared very much about him. In China there are around 130 different languages in different cities and lots of dialects (方言). These dialects come from about eight different language groups. Each group is quite different. For example, a Mandarin(普通话) speaker in northern China would probably understand very little Cantonese(粤语).

Dialects are necessary parts of history. Sheng Guangqi, a teacher at Shandong University, says, “We can learn about the history of a place by looking at its dialect.” For example, in Shan xi, there are still many people who call matches“qu deng”, which means “get a light”. In the old days, “qu deng” was a piece of small wood with some powder on it. People used it to make fire.

Sheng thinks that dialects are also important for us to know about the culture. They are as important as Mandarin. “Mandarin is useful in many formal(正式的) situations. But in some art performances, such as local opera and short plays, dial ects play an important role.” he said.

Although it is necessary to protect (保护)dialects, Zhang Haoming, an expert from the Ministry of Education, said making Mandarin popular is still the most important thing.

“We will further promote Mandarin. At the same time, we will also protect disappearing languages and the cultural mea ning behind these languages,” he said.

It may also be performed at other important events like business opening, special celebrations or wedding ceremonies. People think the lion dance can 90 good luck and success.

There are many different stories about how the lion dance began and why people like it. One of them is like this: A long time ago, a monster(怪兽) called Nian came to a village. He killed and ate many people and animals. The villagers were really 91 of it. Then a lion chased Nian away(赶走). A year later, Nian came back, but this time the lion had problems 92 the villagers again. So first, the villagers made a “lion” by themselves. Then, their “lion” da nced and jumped like the real lion. 93 , it chased Nian away successfully and the villagers were safe.
