中央拨2亿支援青海救灾
The Chinese government late Wednesday allocated RMB200m for disaster relief in quake-hit Qinghai. The State Council has set up a quake-relief headquarters, with Vice Premier Hui Liangyu as the head, to take care of disaster relief, epidemic prevention, seismic monitoring and public security. A 7.1-magnitude quake hit the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu in Qinghai Wednesday morning, leaving 589 people dead and 10000 others injured.
中央财政14日晚紧急下拨救灾资金2亿元，帮助青海地震灾区救灾。国务院已成立抗震救灾总指挥部，回良玉副总理任总指挥，负责抢险救灾、疾病防治、地震监测和社会治安等工作。青海省玉树藏族自治州14日清晨发生7.1级地震，据报道目前已造成589人遇难、1万人受伤。

卫生部:血液使用有风险
A senior Chinese health official says blood transfusions are dangerous and should be avoided unless it is necessary, the Legal Daily reported Wednesday. Zhao Minggang, an official with the Ministry of Health, said HIV and hepatitis have an incubation period that could fool the most accurate test done on donated blood. Medical staff should make patients more aware of the risks, Zhao added.
据《法制日报》14日报道，卫生部医政司副司长赵明钢提醒公众，血液使用有风险，能不输血的时候就不要输血。赵明钢说，在献血筛查的项目中，艾滋病毒、乙肝、丙肝的检测都有窗口期。因此，即使用最精确的检验手段，还是有一段潜伏期检查不出来。他表示，医务人员一定要充分告知病人使用血液的风险。

上海迪士尼动迁完成97%
Land approved for Shanghai Disney will be transferred over to the project in July, with 97% of residents already relocated, Jiang Liang, head of Pudong New District, said Wednesday. Over 2000 households and 297 companies had to be relocated to make way for the theme park's first phase, which would take 5-6 years to finish.

雅芳'行贿门'调查涉多国
Investors sent shares of Avon Products Inc down 8% Tuesday, due to concerns that its operations could be affected by an internal investigation into bribery allegations involving executives. Avon has suspended 4 executives, including 3 at its China unit, pending the outcome of the investigation. A person familiar with the probe said the investigation had spread from China to a dozen or more other countries, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Dairy group Hunan Taizinai Group Co has gone bankrupt with debts totaling RMB3b, Hong Kong media reported Wednesday. The company's lenders include Royal Bank of Scotland and Citibank, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley among its investors. The company, which is known for its probiotic yogurt drinks, has been struggling since 2008 when the Chinese dairy industry was swept by a scandal over tainted milk.

The worldwide release of the iPad tablet will be delayed a month until the end of May, Apple announced Wednesday. Apple said strong demand in the US for the device is behind the postponement. "Although we have delivered more than 500000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks," the company said in a statement.
苹果公司14日宣布，由于美国国内对iPad平板电脑的需求量太大，其全球销售日期将延后1个月至5月底。苹果在声明中称："尽管上市首周我们出货了50多万部iPad，但用户对这款产品的需求远超预期，由此造成的供给缺口估计还会持续数周。"

A Croatian girl has woken up from a coma unable to speak her native language, talking instead in fluent German, local media reported. The 13-year-old had been studying German at school, but her parents say she was previously unable to freely communicate in the language. Hospital staff have to use an interpreter to translate her words to her family. When they speak to her in Croatian she does understand, yet she cannot respond in anything other than German.

Hollywood movie actor Steven Seagal (see photo) is facing legal action from a former personal assistant who claims he sexually abused her and illegally trafficked women, AP reported. The star is the subject of a $1m lawsuit filed by lawyers for Kayden Nguyen, who claims she was treated as a "sex toy". The 23-year-old also said the actor kept 2 Russian attendants who were available to him at all times. Seagal's lawyer says the allegations are "ridiculous and absurd".

>Lucky escape for Arctic team

A British team of scientists made a miraculous escape during an Arctic surveying expedition when a huge ice crack opened beneath their tents, the Daily Mail reported Wednesday. A team member said: "It happened during breakfast. We had to decide quickly which side of the crack we were going to try and stay on and quickly rescue all of the kit to ensure no lasting damage was sustained." Luckily nothing was broken, although the explorers were left a little shaken.(See photo)
