M: That sounds great. I knew you were so worried about it. Good job!

(Text 3)

M: Did you go to the multicultural fair today?

W: Yeah.It was really interesting. I tried some Korean barbeque, had some Thai iced tea and watched a native American dance.

W: I’ll print you the new ID card in about a minute.

W: Look, I’ve arranged t o work at the pet store on Mondays and Wednesdays. ⑨I don’t have anything on Tuesdays and Thursdays so I’d have no problem changing with you. Let’s ask Mr Parker if we can do that.

M: Jennifer. Thanks a lot. I’m sure he’ll agree.

M: I know that y ou don’t feel very well and you’re losing weight. Has school been very difficult lately?

W: Yes. ⑩I just finished taking my midterms. I’ve been drinking a lot of coffee to stay up late to study.

M: What about exercise? Have you been able to get any exercise during midterm exams?

W: No. I’ve been studying so much that I haven’t had time.

M: It sounds to me that you haven’t given your body a chance to get better.

W: What should I do?

M: First, you must sleep more. Next, you have to eat better. Your body cannot work well if you don’t give it good food. Try to eat more vegetables and fruits. And limit your coffee to two cups a day. Finally, you should exercise more. It doesn’t have to be running or dancing.

Walking is an excellent exercise and is easy to do.

W: All right. Thank you, doctor.

(Text 9)

W: G ood morning, Mr Miller. My name is Alice Sommers. I have come to interview you for our school newspaper.

M: Good morning. I suppose you would like my opinions on some social problems.

W: Not exactly, sir. We’d l ike to find out how your normal day begins.

M: Well, that’s easy. My alarm clock wakes me up at 6:15 a.m. Then I do a few exercises to get my head clear, take a shower and have my breakfast, which is always a piece of bread, a cup of coffee and the morning newspaper. I arrive at my office a little before 8:00 a.m. and begin by checking any messages. If possible I take a little rest about 2:00 p.m. to relax and then continue with my schedule until 6 or 7 p.m. I usually get home around 7:30 p.m., spend some time with my family, and go to bed about 11:00 p.m. You know I have two kids that I don’t see very much except on weekends. Fortunately, we spend a lot of time together on weekends, unless there’s some emergency that I have to attend to.

W: Thank you very much.

M: It’s been a pleasure.

(Text 10)

M: G ood morning, everyone. It’s good to see you all here today. I believe some of you once dreamed of becoming famous. I was one of you. Now I’d like to share my story with you. As a young actor, I first arrived in Los Angeles in 1984. I saw the shining lights of the city as the plane landed and I felt excited as the first step that would lead me to fortune got under way. I imagined that the development of my dream would move smoothly and soon, I would be one of the best known faces on cinema screen throughout the world. I was confident in my first performance in 1986.I knew the lead role was perfect for me. I was anxious to become well-known. But when they offered me a small role, I saw that my plans for quick success had been ruined.Over the years I tried out for other roles, but I never got a good part.

Sometimes I thought of giving up. Five years later, I found myself working in the offices of

a movie company. And eventually I ended up as a manager of this company after years of hard

work. You know, it isn’t easy doing this job. There are a lot of things you need to consider, always be ready to take responsibility if things go wrong. And you need to deal with actors who think they are the master of the world — boy, you can’t imagine what a pain that is!
