Standing at a turning point of their life, senior students are no doubt under great pressure and some are even affected with depression without being noticed. If they’re given an access to the course, they themselves will tell if they are harassed by psychological problems.

Second, the course will give senior students some hints on how to deal with psychological problems. While some students will turn to teachers or parents for advice a lot more students prefer to keep these problems to themselves. In this case, the course will be of great help by providing them with psychological counseling.

Third, the course will help senior students improve their interpersonal skills. As they’re getting better in dealing with their own problems, they would offer or share their own experience in dealing with psychological problems.

Recently I participated in an activity called “No Cellphone Day”, from which I experienced the joy of family gathering as well as the inconvenience without cellphone.

Every time I feel depressed with unfinished projects and rep eated failures, my mother’s words spring up in my mind. “Believe in yourself and that’s the secret of success.” These are the most unforgettable words that help me regain hope and confidence.

Once I participated in an English competition, including speaking, listening, reading and writing. I passed the

listening, reading and writing tests with ease and moved on to the finals. In the final round, the contestants were required to make a themed speech and an impromptu speech. To my amazement, I did a better job than expected in the finals and gained second prize in the competition.

Frustrations and disappointments inevitably dampen one’s self-esteem. Nevertheless, my mother’s words make me aware that hope and confidence in straits is indispensable. However formidable an obstacle that lies ahead is, I can overcome it as long as I bear hope and confidence in mind.

Recently I conducted a survey on senior three students participating in extra-curriculum tutorial classes. The survey involved all the 274 students in my school.

As the first chart shows, the number of the students who take tutorial classes is five times as that of those who don’t, which really astonished me. In terms of the class hours, a majority of the students spend six or eight hours each week on tutorial classes, taking up about 55% of the students surveyed in total. And about 20% of the students spend two or four hours each week. The students who spend 10 or even 12 hours each week are in the smallest portion, accounting for less than 15%.

Obviously, it is a normal phenomenon for senior three students to go to tutorial classes. Then, why are the hours varying from one to another? According to my analysis, the 55% of the students might be in the middle of the student pool, hoping to move up the ladder by taking on tutorial classes; the 20% of the students might be high achievers at school. By taking on a few hours’ tutorial classes in the subjects they are not so good at, they could further improve their academic performance. As for the less than 15% of the students, they might not be smart learners. They have to rely heavily on teachers to not be left out.

There’s no denying that tutorial classes help students to some extent. Yet, students should make wise use of them, rather than follow the suit or count on them to pass the exams. After all, study depends on students themselves, not anyone else.
