Grammar in use

(The simple future tense)

当You and I 为主语时,通常避免用shall:

You and I will work in the same office.

I’ll, we’ll, you’ll等:

When will you have time to get some stamps?

I’ll get them before lunch.

Have you seen Tom yet?

No, I’ll see him the day after tomorrow.

We’ll be back at 5 o’clock.

Tom’ll be here soon.

When’ll Mary be back?

The concert’ll start in a minute.

That film’ll be on next Sunday.

在否定式中,will not可以缩略为-’ll not或won’t; shall not缩略为shan’t(在美国英语中很少用shan’t, 用shall表示将来也不常用):

I/We won’t/shan’t go.

You won’t swim too far, will you?

Don’t worry! We shan’t/won’t swim far.

Won’t you have some cake?

(The simple future tense)

Lesson 80 The Crystal Palace 【Text】 Perhaps the most extraordinary building of the nineteeth century was the Crystal Palace, which was built in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851. The Crystal Palace was different from all other buildings in the world, for it was made of iron and glass. It was one of the biggest buildings of all time and a lot of people from many countries came to see it. A great many goods were sent to the exhibition from various parts of the world. There was also a great deal of machinery on display. The most wonderful piece of machinery on show was Nasmyth's steam hammer. Though in those days, traveling was not as easy as it is today, steam boats carried thousands of visitors across the Channel from Europe. On arriving in England, they were taken to the Crystal Palace by train. There were six million visitors in all, and the profits from the exhibition were used to build museums and colleges. Later, the Crystal Palace was moved to South London. It remained one of the most famous buildings in the world until it was burnt down in 1936. New words and expressions 生词和短语 1. palace 1) n 宫殿 the Summy Palace 颐和园 Buckingham Palace 白金汉宫 2) n (尤其指欧洲大陆)华丽的大厦 eg: The nobles of Florence built splendid palaces.

新概念英语第二册:Lesson80 课文注释【篇一】 which was built in Hyde Park… It was one of the biggest buildings of all time… He is one of the greatest men of all time. Yesterday was the hottest day of the year. (语气非常肯定) Yesterday was one of the hottest days of the year. There was also a great deal of machinery on display.

某个具体的机器可用 machine或者 a piece of machinery来表示: This is a wonderful piece of machinery/a wonderful machine. There is a lot of new machinery/There are many new machines in our factory. At the Great Exhibition, a great many goods were on display/show. (表语) This is the best dress on display/show. (定语) Shall we put all these flowers on display/show? There were six million visitors in all… I paid him £ 200 in all.
