阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A

When I was 4, my parents decided they could no longer live together. That same year, my mom moved to Los Angeles (L.A.) and a therapist (治疗师) was hired to decide where I would live. Playing with a dollhouse in her office, I showed her the mother?s room on one side and the father?s room on the other. When she asked me about the little boy?s room, I told her the little boy didn?t know where to sle ep.

The therapist finally decided I would stay with my dad during the school years and visit my mom on long holidays and for summers. I began flying between two cities and leading two different lives. I remember my last school day in Grade Six. My friends made plans to go to the beach together, but I couldn?t join them because I had to fly to L.A. It wasn?t that I didn?t want to see my mom and stepdad; I just didn?t want to leave my friends. It wasn?t easy to put up a wall, and pretend I didn?t hate saying goodbye to them. In the morning, my dad drove me to school with my packed bags, and after school, my friends went off together, and I went to the airport.

What has come of this in the end is that I?m always missing somebody. When I?m in northern California, I miss my mom and stepdad, while in L.A. I miss going out with my friends, my dad, and my little brother and sister. But after so many flights, I?ve learned that it?s also fun traveling between two cities and experiencing different lives. Other children may not have the opportunity to experience so much.

Packages over 16 oz. placed in a mailbox will not be sent. Bring the package to the post office or retail (零售的) mailing shop instead. The clerk will process it for you.

Almost everyone stood when the bride walked down the aisle (过道) in her white dress, but not the wedding conductor, because she was fixed on her chair.

The wedding was led by “I-Fairy”, a 1.5-meter tall seated robot with flashing eyes and plastic hair. Sunday?s wedding was the first time a marriage had been led by a robot, according to manufacturer, Kokoro Co.

“Please lift the bride?s veil (面纱),” the robot said in a tiny voice, waving its arms in the air as the newly-married couple kissed in front of about 50 guests.

The wedding took place at a restaurant in Hibiya Park in central Tokyo, where the I-Fairy wore flowers and directed a rooftop ceremony. Wires led out from beneath it to a black curtain a few feet away, where a man clicked commands into a computer.

Japan has one of the most advanced robotics industries in the world, with the government actively supporting the field for future growth. Industrial models in factories are now standard, but recently Japanese companies have been making a push to inject robots into everyday life.

Honda makes a walking child-shaped robot, and other firms have developed robots to entertain the elderly or play baseball. Kokoro, whose corporate goal is to “touch the hearts of the people”, also makes giant dinosaur robots for exhibitions and lifelike Android models that can smile and laugh. The company is a sub-company of Sanrio Co., which owns the rights to Hello Kitty and other Japanese characters.

“This was a lot of fun. I think that Japanese people have a strong sense that robots are our friends. Those in the robot industry mostly understand this, but people mainly want robots near them to serve some purpose,” said the bride, Satoko Inoue, 36, who works at Kokoro.

The I-Fairy sells for about 6.3 million yen ($68,000) and three are in use in Singapore, the US and Japan, according to company spokeswoman, Kayako Kido.

A. was controlled by Android system

B. was seated in a chair

C. can give an order herself

D. was the only I-Fairy in use

29. Which of the following products is NOT made by Kokoro?

A. The I-Fairy.

B. A walking child-shaped robot.

C. Giant dinosaur robots.

D. Lifelike Android models.

30. What do people mainly expect robots to do?

A. Act as a sign of technology development.

B. Be their friends.

C. Touch the hearts of the people.

D. Meet their own requirements.

31. What does the text mainly convey?

A. Robot wedding conductors are becoming popular.

B. The manufacturing industry in Japan is booming.

C. The Japanese pay a lot of attention to robots.

D. Robots are increasingly entering everyday life.

We all know the benefits of a good night?s sleep. Not only do you wake up bright-eyed and feeling rested, but your mind is more alert and functions better. But a new scientific study also suggests that getting undisturbed sleep could lower your risk of developing Alzheimer?s (老年痴呆症) later in life.

Researchers from Uppsala University in Sweden say their findings, published in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia journal, suggest that improved sleep quality as you get older could help protect men from the memory-robbing disease. “We demonstrate that men with self-reported sleep disturbances run a 1.5-fold higher risk of developing Alzheimer?s disease than those without reports of sleep disturbances during a 40-year follow-up period,”lead researcher, Christian Benedict, said in a statement. “The later the self-reported sleep disturbance was found, the higher the risk was for developing Alzheimer?s disease.”

The study followed over 1,500 men, who were 50 at the start of the study, for 40 years. Researchers looked for the incidence of dementia (痴呆) at follow-up intervals as well as the subjects? reports of their sleep disturbances. The highest risk of developing dementia was found among men who reported sleep disturbances starting at age 70. While the risk of developing Alzheimer?s was around 50 percent higher for men with sleep issues, it was also a third higher for dementia in general.

The sleep-dementia link has been widely studied by Alzheimer?s researchers. Another study conducted by Uppsala University researchers pointed to sleep deprivation (剥夺) with an increase of molecules (分子) in the brain, which are found in instances of brain damage. An increase in these molecules was seen after just one night of missed sleep.

In 2013, researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that not only a short sleep duration but also low sleep quality was seen to increase the risk of Alzheimer?s in older people. They say the key is to instill the value of getting adequate, restful sleep in older adults.

32. The new study mainly suggests that having a good night?s sleep can _______.

A. make your eyes feel rested

B. increase your alertness to the outside world

C. make your mind function better

D. reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer?s

33. The study published in the Alzheimer’s and Dementia journal _______.

A. followed over 1,500 female participants

B. tested a group of people about 40 years old

C. continued over a 40-year follow-up period

D. was conducted by researchers in Johns Hopkins University

34. It seems that _______.

A. men without self-reported sleep disturbances won?t develop Alzheimer?s

B. it is better to find self-reported sleep disturbances at an earlier age

C. men at 70 years old are most likely to develop Alzheimer?s

D. the chance of developing Alzheimer?s is lower than for dementia

35. Which word can the underlined word in the last paragraph be replaced by?

A. Apply.

B. Introduce.

C. Practice.

D. Reward.

Understanding Disabilities

There are around 650 million people in the world that have disabilities, yet most people are still quite ignorant (无知的) about it.

1. What do you think of when you see the word, …disability??

Wheelchairs? White sticks? The Paralympics (残奥会)? 36 The legal definition of disability is that someone has a physical or mental impairment (缺陷) that has a great and long-term bad effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.

This affects about 650 million of us, worldwide. 37 Most become disabled during the course of their life. So maybe the term TAB (Temporarily Able-Bodied) is better for people who are not disabled, because we may not stay that way forever.

2. 38

Imagine not being able to see, or not being able to walk. Think of all the things that would be different. How can I get my education? What about my future? Would my friends still want to hang out with me? Will strangers laugh at me in the street? Can I get my own place? What job can I do?

Clearly, having a disability can affect many things in a person?s life.

3. Disability and the law

39 It is illegal and extremely unpleasant to discriminate (歧视) against someone who is disabled. The label …disabled? is not always helpful. Even if someone meets the legal definition, they may not see themselves that way. Instead of thinking about what is wrong with those people, or noticing what they can?t do, we should look at how we like to live, and try to make it possible for everyone to join in.

After all—what is normal? 40 But better understanding would be a start.

A. How can the disabled find better jobs?

B. How does disability affect people?

C. People with disabilities don?t need pity.

D. Most of us have never really thought about it.

E. We should consider more for people with disabilities.

F. Only 17% of people with a disability are born with it.

G. There are laws to prevent people with disabilities being treated unfairly.

书面表达

Dear Peter,

I?m glad to receive your letter, and now I?ll tell you something about the first aid course in our school and some suggestions about burns.

The first aid course is a necessary part of our education and will make us more useful members of our society. If we have learnt about first aid, we can help someone who has had an accident, even can save someone?s life one day. Because of these reasons, our school offers the course.

The suggestions about burns are as follows: First, remove clothing using scissors if necessary unless it is stuck to the burn. Then, cool the burned area at once. Place the affected area under cool running water, but don?t apply co ol water for too long a time. Last but not the least, you?d better go to hospital if the affected area is still painful.

The first aid course is very interesting and useful. It gives us information about many situations, and also gives us a chance to practise first aid treatment. Would you like to come here to study again? We are all looking forward to it.

Best Wishes!

Yours,

Li Hua

For some reason we were reminded that we primates(灵长目) need love. Kim Bard of the University of Portsmouth in England and her colleagues carried out a study on 46 baby chimpanzees orphans(黑猩猩孤儿), which had lost their mothers. The study showed that primate babies that have tight relationships with mother figures do much better on cognitive (认知的 ) tests than babies who only grew up with peers (同伴), but this is not breaking news. In fact, it ' s old news. In the 1950s, Harry Harlow did a series of experiments with baby monkeys that showed. that lack of love and comfort makes for a crazy monkey. Harlow constructed a cage that included a wire monkey "mother" with a plastic face. Then he equipped the "mother" with a milk bottle .The cage also had another wire "mother" who was covered with soft cloth. The baby monkeys spent all their time with the cloth "mother" arid only went to the wire "mother" to feed. Harlow's monkey experiment was important because, at the time, child care experts, and everybody's grandmother had a "no touch, no comfort" policy toward children. They advised parents not to respond to crying babies. They thought that babies should sleep alone to become independent, and for God's sake put that kid down. But Harlow's work changed that policy. Mothers were soon permitted to have their babies next to them in the hospital. The current chimp research based on Harlow's work shows that mother's love doesn't just make for a psychologically(糖神上地) healthy child, it also makes for a smart child. The highly raised chimps do better than those that are not loved, and the well-raised chimps do even better than human kids on IQ tests. We are primates, social animals which need love. We need to be held and talked to and made to feel that at least one person wants to be with us all the time. 1. The study Kim Bard and his colleagues did A. included 46 baby and mother monkeys B. is nothing new to people about the findings C. showed that many chimpanzees lack of love when they were young D. showed many chimpanzees had good relationship with their mothers 2. Harlow built two "mothers" for baby,.monkeys to _______ A. make them live comfortably B. let them have more choices

A One reaction to all the concern about tropical deforestation(砍伐森林) is a blank stare that asks the question, "Since I don't live there, what does it have to do with me?" The answer is that your way of life, wherever you live in the world, is tied to the tropics in many ways. If you live in a house, wash your hair, eat fruits and vegetables, drink soda, or drive a car, you can be certain that you are affected by the loss of tropical forests. Take rubber(橡胶) for example. For many uses, only natural rubber from trees will do. Synthetics are not good enough. Today over half the world's commercial(商业的)rubber is produced in Malaysia and Indonesia, while the Amazon's rubber industry produces much of the world's four million tons. And rubber is an important material in making gloves, balloons, footwear and many sporting goods. Thousands of other tropical plants are valuable for their industrial use. Many scientists strongly believe that deforestation contributes to the greenhouse effect—or heating of the earth from increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. As we destroy forests, we lose their ability to change carbon dioxide into
