On Saturday I went to the Natural History Museum in London to see the first London Ice Sculpting F estival. It was a really cold day, so I wrapped up in my ski jacket, ski hat and ski socks to fight off the cold wind.

The Ice Sculpting Festival had five teams from all over Europe carving(雕刻) really huge pieces of ice into their own shapes and designs. The theme they were given was “wildlife in the City” and they had been carving all day on Friday, so some shapes were beginning to appear.

I was invited by the organizers to see if I wanted to have a try at carving a small penguin out of a little piece of ice. There were lots of people trying to do this and I hoped that I would have more time than them, as it looked really hard, I was given as long time as I needed and got help from Piers, an ice sculptor at the Ice Box. He works at -7℃ most of the time!

Piers gave me gloves and the chisels. Then he told me to try to carve a bit of the ice with a chisel. It was softer than I thought it would be and Piers helped me learn to create shapes and curves. Making the shape look like a penguin took quite a long time and it was a really fat penguin with fat wings and a short beak, but kind of cute though!

I r e ally enjoyed having a try at ice carving. Thank you to everyone at the Natural History Museum and Ice Rink, the Festival and The Ice Box. It was great fun!
