Chinese red, known as the symbolic color of China, is extremely popular with Chinese people. It is usually believed that it can bring us happiness and good luck.

People in my country pay such great importance to Chinese red that they use plenty of red objects in some important events and affairs such as wedding, the Spring Festival. In a wedding, it is common to see that the bride is in a red wedding dress and the wedding room is decorated with red. And during the Spring Festival, people are always putting up red scrolls on their walls.

When Justin Tong was a child, other kids felt sorry for him. His parents always had him doing a lot of housework such as carrying out the rubbish and sending newspapers. But when Tong grew up, he was better off than his childhood friends. He got a better job and lived a healthier and happier life.

These are the findings of a 40-year study that followed the lives of 456 teenagers from London. The study showed that the children who had worked hard in childhood enjoyed happier and richer lives than those who had not. “Children who worked in the home or community achieved a lot and came to feel th ey were useful members of society,” said Daniel Brown, the expert who made the discovery. “And because they felt good about themselves, others felt good about them.”

Brown’s study followed these children in great detail. Interviews were done at ages 25, 31and 47. Brown found that the more points the children got in their childhood, the better they would be paid in their future work.
