英语听力模拟试题(一)

T ext 1

M: Do you cycle to work every day?

W: Nearly every day. Sometimes, if it’s raining, I’ll catch the bus.

T ext 2

M: What’s in your backpack? This thing weighs a ton!

W: Well, I wanted to stop by the library to return some books on our way to the beach.

T ext 3

M: Are you still taking a bus? When are you going to get your car back? It’s been in the shop for over

a week.

W: Ten days to be exact. They say as soon as they get the parts, they can fix it. But that could take another two or three days.

M: Why don’t I save you a bus ticket? I’m going your way tonight. Get in the car.

T ext 4

W: Hey, this is really great coffee. Where did you get it?

M: From Imelda’s, the café across the street. They buy their beans directly from coffee growers around the world. It’s a little more expensive than Starbucks, but it’s worth it to support a locally owned business.

T ext 5

W: Excuse me. Can I have change for a dollar, please?

M: Sorry, but I can only give you change if you buy something.

W: But I only have a dollar on me, and all I need is four quarters.

M: Sorry, but I don’t make the rules.

T ext 6

M: What’s th e plan for the Christmas holiday?

W: Our staff are already on top of everything. We’ll have the best display in the whole shopping mall. M: This is when we usually make most of our money. We have to make sure we don’t mess anything up.

W: Don’t worry. I’ll even work overtime every night until the holidays are over if that’s what it takes! M: Good. My boss is giving me a lot of pressure. Last year, our sales were really poor, and I promised my boss that we could turn things around. If we don’t, then we’l l both be looking for new jobs! W: With these new toys that just came in, we’re gonna be in the money for sure!

T ext 7

W: Would you like some iced tea or some ice water?

M: Do you have any warm water?

W: Uh, yeah, I guess so. Aren’t you hot right now, though? I mean, it must be almost ninety degrees outside.

M: I suppose it is pretty warm, but I never like to drink cold things. They make my stomach upset. W: Really? I always drink cold drinks, even when it’s not that warm. I think most American kids do. M: Y eah, I’ve noticed that whenever you go to stores here and want to buy a soda or a bottle of water, everything is kept cold. I once asked a shopkeeper if he had any drinks that were room temperature, and he looked at me like I was crazy!

W: Well, I don’t think you’re crazy… here’s your water. Let me know if it’s not warm enough.

M: Oh, this is perfect. I promise that if you ever come to China, I’ll help you find something cold to drink if you want!

T ext 8

W: I am having some big problems with this tour.

M: What seems to be the problem? We are here to help, madam.

W: This tour company is all over the place. No one seems to know where we are going and

when we are going to get there.

M: I will see what I can do about that. How are the accommodations?

W: So far, we have been staying in really out-of-the-way places… you know, totally in the middle of nowhere!

M: Is anything wrong with your room?

W: The television in our room was broken, and they didn’t send anyone to fix it.

M: I will complain to the hotel manager about that. How about the hotel restaurant?

W: The food in the restaurant was terrible, and a few people from our group got sick.

M: I am so sorry that you’re having such a bad experience. We would like to offer you a free city tour and a free lunch to make it up to you.

T ext 9

M: How much are these melons?

W: Let’s see… whoa, pretty pricey! The Golden Kiss melons are one dollar and fifty cents per pound, and the Nature’s Best melons are two dollars a pound, but those are organic.

M: Y eah, organic fruits are always more expensive. So, how much does that Nature’s Best melon weigh?

W: It shouldn’t be more than a couple of pounds… oh, man, I was way off! It’s five pounds! That’s definitely more than I want to spend!

M: No kidding! That Golden Kiss looks about the same size, maybe a little bit smaller. Even if it is only four pounds, that’s still a six-dollar melon.

W: All right, well, maybe we should just get some apples and call it a day, huh? We can afford those, at least.

M: Hey, wait a minute! Look over there! What’s in that cart? It looks like melons…

W: Y eah, these are all on sale for one dollar! They look fine to me. Why do you think they are so cheap?

M: Look on the outside. The color of the skin is not perfect, maybe because they were dropped or they got moved around when they were transported from the farm. Smell this one… it’s totally fine! W: Y um! And it’s even bigger than the other two melons… we’ll save so much money! Let’s get it!

T ext 10

The café is open all day for snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Finally, we have a shop that sells books and sports equipment. The opening hours are nine to five, but it closes for lunch between twelve and one.

That’s all about our sports center. Are there any questions? No? Now, I’d like to walk with you around the center and show you what we have here.

T ext 1

M: What are all those paintings on that wall over there? They look like they were done by a child. W: Actually, I paid about two thousand dollars for each of the small ones. And the larger one was three times as much!

T ext 2

M: Excuse me. Where would I find vitamins for dogs?

W: We have some on aisle five. If you need a wider selection, however, I would suggest going to a pet store.

T ext 3

M: OK, why don’t you try putting your leg out a little bit more?

W: All right… Ouch! Mark, I think we need to stop for a minute.

M: What are you talking about? These pictures are looking great! We can’t stop now!

W: I think I pulled a muscle during that last pose…

T ext 4

W: Didn’t you have an interview with an advertising company yesterday? How did it go?

M: They called to reschedule it for next Monday.

W: Well, that’s the day after tomorrow.

T ext 5

M: We’re scheduled to be at your place later this afternoon.

W: I’m afraid we have to push it back a couple of hours. My mother’s flight was delayed, so I won’t be back from the airport until about 3:00 p.m.

T ext 6

W: Oh, it’s super crowded here.

M: Y es. Peop le like to eat in cafeterias. They’re cheap and quick.

W: What shall we do now? I’m a bit lost in here.

M: Just pick up a plate and put a knife, fork, spoon, and a paper napkin on it. Then, just start walking down the line.

W: I see. Are those the food prices that are posted on the wall?

M: Y eah. Y ou can choose whatever you want.

W: What a variety of foods! Barbecued chicken, fried fish, spaghetti… they all sound delicious.

M: They sure do. What are you going to have?

W: I’d like that fried fish.

M: OK. Tha t’s also my favorite.

T ext 7

M: Hey, did you have fun at the company party on Friday night?

W: Yeah, I guess it was OK. Those parties usually end up the same way.

M: What do you mean?

W: Oh, you know… someone ends up drinking too much, things like that.

M: Really? This was my first office party. And I didn’t notice any of that stuff going on at all.

W: Y eah, you know what? Y ou’re totally right. This year’s party was different. Everything was totally relaxed. It was actually fun to be around our coworkers for a change!

M: Did you see the dress that Maggie was wearing?

W: Which Maggie? The one from the accounting department or Mr. Bradley’s secretary?

M: The secretary.

W: Oh, yeah. I liked it a lot. It was really pretty. And blue is my favorite color.

M: Mine, too. I just think it’s cool to see people dressed up differently from boring old black and white business clothes.

T ext 8

W: Good morning, sir. What can I do for you?

M: This is Roger Bell in Room 908. Listen, I need to change rooms. It’s too noisy in here. My wife was woken up several times by the elevator. She said she couldn’t stand it.

W: I’m very sorry, sir. I do apologize. Room 908 is one of our older rooms. It’s possible that noise can be heard early in the morning when everything else is quiet.

M: Well, look here. Since we’re paying good money to stay in this hotel, I’d like to change rooms,

please.

W: I’d be happy to, sir. The problem is that we’re all booked up today. Could you wait till tomorrow?

There’ll be some rooms for you to choose fro m then.

M: All right, but I think you should offer us a suite tomorrow evening so we can finally get a good night’s sleep. That would be fair.

W: No problem, sir. I’ll be sure to make a note of that. Everything will be taken care of. And if there is anything else you need, please let us know.

T ext 9

W: Oh, Peter, there you are. Y ou’ve been gone for ages. What kept you so long?

M: I’m sorry I’m so late, Sally. Y ou know I went to the bank to cash some traveler’s checks? Well, the computer system was down. Just my luck, right? They said the problem would be fixed in a few minutes, so I waited. And then I started talking to another guy in the bank, and I forgot all about the time.

W: Oh, really? Who did you meet in the bank? Someone who works there?

M: No, he’s a tourist from New Y ork. His name’s Henry, and he’s been here for a week, but he’s going to Germany tomorrow. He’s an architect, and he’s spending four weeks traveling around Europe. W: Just like us!

M: Y eah, you said it! He told me the names of some places where we should eat. Great food, and not too pricey, he said. Oh, and he also gave me this map of the bus system. He said he didn’t need it anymore.

W: That’s cool, but it’s too bad he’s leaving tomorrow. Ah, here’s the waitress. Let’s order. Do you want anything to eat, or should we just have a drink?

M: Well, I’m hungry, and we’ve got a lot of sightseeing to do, so let’s just have a snack and a drink.

T ext 1

W: I’m hungry. Do you have anything to eat besides bread?

M: Not really. I usually just go out for meals. There’s a great café around the corner that has really good soups and salads. We could go there if you want.

W: Lead the way!

T ext 2

M: In our math lesson today, we are going to study problems from a long time ago. Older societies came up with solutions to many hard problems. In fact, a lot of the work they did is greater than what we have done in modern times. Yes, Susan?

W: I thought people from a long time ago were not as smart as we have become today. We have built computers and other very advanced things. Our technology seems greater than anything they had back then.

T ext 3

M: Welcome to Mexico! Can you show me your passport, please?

W: Sure. Here you are.

M: Thank you. What is the purpose of your visit?

W: I’m here on business, but I’m hoping to squeeze in a couple of days of sightseeing at the end.

T ext 4

M: May I speak to Mrs. Winters, please? This is Patrick Dublin calling.

W: One moment, please… I’m sorry, Mr. Dublin, but she seems to be out at the moment. She is probably still shopping for groceries. Would you like to leave your number, and I’ll have her call you back as soon as she gets home?

M: Sure. My office number is 845-6734. I’ll be here for the rest of the day. Thanks!

T ext 5

M: I thought it would be fun if we all went to see that new movie downtown.

W: Count me out. I’ve heard that it’s very boring.

T ext 6

M: Hello, madam. What can I do for you today?

W: Hi. Can I just have a bag of chips and a soda, please?

M: Sorry, but I’m all out of chips at the moment. Are you sure you don’t want a hot dog?

W: They look good, and I know this is a hot dog stand and everything, but I’m supposed to m eet a friend for dinner soon, so…

M: Listen, madam, if you’ve never had one of my hot dogs, you don’t know what you’re missing.

W: Oh, I’ve had your hot dogs before, and they’re great, but I think I’ll just take a Diet Coke for now. M: All right. That’ll be 75 cents, please.

W: Here you are. Keep the change. I’ll be back tomorrow afternoon for one of those hot dogs!

T ext 7

W: Are you seeing anyone?

M: What did you say?

W: I asked if you have a girlfriend. So, do you?

M: Uh, why do you want to know? Are you asking me out on a date?

W: No! Of course not. If you aren’t seeing anyone right now, I have a friend I think you should meet. M: Oh, great! Just what I need — another blind date!

W: Well, if you’re going to be like that, then we can just forget the w hole thing. I just thought that you two might hit it off. Never mind…

M: Wait, wait… Sorry. It’s just that my brother set me up with someone last week, and it was terrible.

But you have pretty good taste. Tell me about her. I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to at least meet up with her, especially if you think we’d get along.

W: Great! Let’s go grab a beer, and I’ll tell you all about her.

T ext 8

M: Clifton Police Station. Can I help you?

W: Yes. It’s about my daughter Mary. She went to school this morning, but I know she never made it there. She hasn’t come back home, and it’s already 11 o’clock…

M: Just a moment, Mrs. …?

W: Mrs. Jane Smith. I live at 34 Bath Road.

M: Thank you. Now, Mrs. Smith, can you tell me exactly what happened?

W: Well, Mary left home this morning at about 9:00. Her teacher called me up about an hour ago and asked if Mary was sick. I said, “No, of course not. Why?” You can imagine what she said next…

M: I see. I just need to get a few details from you. How old is Mary?

W: She is six.

M: And what does she look like?

W: Well, she is slim and has long dark hair. I guess she is of medium height. She is wearing a white short-sleeved blouse, a pink and white skirt, long stockings, and black shoes.

We’ll find your daughter, I promise. I’ll give you a call as soon as we get any information, OK?

T ext 9

W: Oh, that’s terrible. Did they say why they are turning it off?

M: Y up. This time, they said it was because of construction on a nearby street. However, I haven’t seen any construction in our neighborhood, and even if there were something going on, why would that affect our water for two whole months?! It’s ridiculous!

W: It sounds like they are lying, doesn’t it?

M: Y eah. I am fed up with their lies and excuses! I called my landlord after I saw this latest notice. She knew no thing about it! She’s the owner and they never informed her of what was happening in the building.

W: Can she do anything about it?

M: She said she’d call me back after she talks with the management company, and she will buy and install a gas water heater in one of the bathrooms. A t least I can take a hot shower. She can’t do anything about not having hot water in the kitchen, though.

W: Well, that’s something, at least.

M: It definitely makes a difference in my day. I just can’t be ready for work if I haven’t had a shower in the morning.

Once, there was a beautiful valley with rivers, lakes, and the most amazing colorful trees. They provided a home for birds and small bears, and they grew everywhere. Life was quiet and happy, until a man came with some tools. He cut down some of the trees to make colorful sweaters, which he sold to other people for a lot of money. The animals tried to tell him to stop, but he wouldn’t listen. He wanted more money, and so he cut down more trees. All the birds and bears had to move away because they had nowhere to live. The man built a factory so he could make even more things; by now, he was making jackets, hats, pants, and socks. The factory created a lot of wastewater, which ran into the rivers and lakes and poisoned the fish. They had to leave, just like the birds and the bears. The animals begged the man to leave them alone, but he didn’t listen. Finally, when he cut down the last tree, he realized that he didn’t have any more use for that place, so he packed up hi s business and left.
