After study for hours. I went outside and up to the roof nearby for a break and watched people swimming in the sea. It was a sunny day-a blue, cloudless sky over a calm sea. But then, as I looked in the, distance, I discovered a series of three or four big waves heading towards the shore. I'd seen these mini- tsunamis(小型海啸) many times before. They were heading at speed in the direction of the swimming area. Most people knew to look out for them, but from the screams that started coming from the beach, I could tell someone was in trouble

Without thinking, I ran down into the street, holding my bodyboard (冲浪板)on the way and shouted at a stranger to call the coastguard(海岸警卫) My

neighbor Tom had heard the screaming as well and was also outside with his bodyboard, so together we rushed to the steps that led down to the sea.

Once we got closer, we discovered the waves had pulled a boy and a girl into the open sea. I knew that the nearest boat would take at least 30 minutes to reach us. I wasn't used to this sort of emergency--I'd never been trained as a lifeguard--but I didn’t think twice about trying to save them. I suppose in a way I wanted to impress everyone; at 19, a deal like that can seem like a good opportunity to show off.

Tom and I dived into the water and it took us 10 minutes to get to them. When we finally reached them, they were almost lifeless with only their heads coming in and out of the water. We could tell they were still alive from their small breaths but it was clear they wouldn’t have been able to stay there much longer. I held the boy and pulled him over my board. Tom then moved the girl onto his board.

“Were you Mark’s math teacher?”An old man came to my office and asked.

I nodded. “Mark talked about you a lot. I want to show you something,”he said, taking a wallet out of his pocket. “They found this on him when he was killed in the battle. We thought you might recognize it.”

Opening the wallet, he carefully removed two worn pieces of notebook paper that had obviously been taped, folded and refolded many times. I knew

without looking that the papers were the ones on which I had listed all the good things each of Mark’s classmates had said about him. And that happened 20 years ago.

Mark was in the third grade class I taught. All 34 of my students were dear to me, but Mark was one in a million. Very neat in appearance, he had that happy-to-be-alive attitude that made even his occasional misbehavior delightful.

Mark also talked without stopping. I tried to remind him again and again that talking without permission was unacceptable. What impressed me so much, though, was the. sincere response every time I had to correct him for misbehaving.“Thank you for correcting me,Sister!”I didn’t know what to make of it at first but before long I became accustomed to hearing it many times a day.

One morning my patience was growing thin when Mark talked once too often.

I made a new-teacher’s mistake. I looked at Mark and said, “If you say one more word, I am going to tape your mouth shut!”

It wasn’t ten seconds later when Chuck shouted, “Mark is talking again.”

I hadn’t asked any of the students to help me watch Mark, but since I had stated the punishment in front of the class, I had to act on it.

第二节:概要写作(满分25分)

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

From the health point of view we are living in an amazing age. A large number of once deadly illnesses can now be cured by modern drugs and medical treatment. But though the possibility of living a long and happy life is greater than ever before, every day we witness the unbelievable killing of men, women and children on the roads Man vs the motorcar!

It has been rightly said that when man is sitting behind steering(操控方向)wheel, his car becomes the extension of his personality. There is no doubt that the motor-car often brings out a man's very worst qualities. People who are normally quiet and pleasant may become ill-mannered, aggressive, and absolutely selfish when they are behind a steering wheel. All their hidden disappointments and regrets seem to be brought by the act of driving.

The surprising thing is that society smiles so kindly on the motorist and seems to forgive his behavior. Everything is done for his convenience. Cities are allowed to become almost impossible to live in because of heavy traffic; towns are made ugly by huge car parks; the countryside is ruined by road networks; and the mass annual killing becomes nothing more than a statistic, to be conveniently forgotten.

It is high time a world system of laws were created to reduce this senseless waste of human life. The driving test should be standardized and made far more difficult than it is; all the drivers should be made to take a test every

three years or so; the age at which young people are allowed to drive any vehicle should be raised to at least 21; all vehicles should be put through strict annual tests for safety. Present drinking and driving laws should be made much stricter. Maximum and minimum speed limits should be introduced on all roads.

These measures may sound extremely severe. But surely nothing should be considered as too severe if it results in reducing the annual deaths of humans. After all, the world is for human beings, not motorcars.

第二节概要写作(满分25分)

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Workaholics live for their work, often spending many extra hours at work, and often taking work home to complete. It's fine to live in a work-hard culture, but when work becomes the only reason for a person's existence above more important things ( such as family and friends), the issue becomes critical. That's the problem more and more Americans are faced with. Americans are working more hours per week than in years past, and with many companies reducing employees, more and more workers are worried about their own jobs. Some studies show that as many as 40 percent of American workers don’t even bother to take vacations, partly because of fears they may not have a job to come back to if they do. Besides, it is obvious that part of the matter is financial. More and more people begin to define success in terms of financial measures. The higher one's income is, the more respect one gets. Finally, people nowadays live and work in a connected environment----e-mails, instant messaging, fax machines, and cell phones-making it hard for them to truly get time away from their work, even when they are on holiday.

When work becomes the only reason for being--when it becomes the only thing people think about, the only thing that truly makes people happy, many Americans find that they are no longer close to their kids. Divorce rate jumps and serious stress-related health problems come up. Undoubtedly, it is time to do something.

To reduce workaholism, you must stay away from work once in a while. There are many ways to do that: Spend time with family and friends Call home often to stay connected; Learn to say no to new assignments; Consider exercises to get your body back to a healthy shape; Fight the urge that everything you do must be perfect, It will take some effort, but for yourself and those you love, you really should make the effort. Have a try and you won't regret it.

第二节:概要写作(满分25分)

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Nowadays, it is most probable that you have an electronic device loaded with hundreds or even thousands of your favourite songs. At any moment in time, you can f6ll your headphones with the sounds of a particular song that suits your mood at that exact time.

Music is so common. But have you realized the power of it? Are you getting ready for a big soccer match or do you need to get excited? Maybe some hip hop with a strong beat will do the trick! Besides, you might be ready to study for a big exam the next day. To help you study better, a little bit of Mozart might make you remember things better.

We may all have been moved by particular songs that spoke to us in some situations. But is there any scientific evidence showing that music really has such effect on people? of course, there is! Scientists have long recognized the power of music. Over the years, many studies have been done to examine in greater depth the nature and extent of the elects music has on people.

For example, scientists at the University of Missouri have found that listening to music can have positive effects on your mood. Their research gives scientific credibility(可靠性)to the behavior that many people have already experienced on their own: listening to upbeat music can brighten your day and boost your mood.

Other studies have shown that upbeat music isn't the only type of music that can be helpful, however. When people are sad or have suffered a personal loss, sad music can be helpful because the tone and lyrics of the music can resonate (引起共鸣)with the listeners Likewise, people under a lot of stress or experiencing upsetting situations can benefit from listening to angry music. Although angry music might not help you if you're in a normal mood, its tone can benefit you when you are dealing with stressful and upsetting situations.

第二节:概要写作(满分25分)

阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Scientists in London say they have found the best diet for both humans and the planet. If the world followed the so-called "planetary health" diet, the scientists told Reuters that each year more than 11 million early deaths could be prevented. Scientists say that the way we produce and eat food is very bad for the planet. For the health of the planet, they claim the same diet would reduce greenhouse gases and save more land, water and animals.

Tim Lang, a professor at Britain's University of Lon don, co-led the research. He told Reuters, The food we eat and how we produce it determines the health of people and the planet, and we are currently getting this seriously wrong. "Lang added that the world's population is expected to people by 2050. If we want to feed everyone, he explained, we all need to change what we eat and the way we eat by "improving food production and reducing food waste.”

Well, what do you eat on the planetary health diet? The scientists who created this diet say it is largely plant-based but still has small amounts of dairy, fish and meat. The diet calls for cutting red meat and sugar by 50 percent and doubling the amount of, fruits, vegetables and legumes.

Food situations around the world are not equal. In certain areas, this would mean great changes. People in North America, for example, eat 6.5 times the recommended amount of red meat. On the other hand, people in South Asia eat only half the amount suggested by the new planetary health diet. Meeting

the targets for vegetables would need big changes in other areas. In sub-Saharan Africa, people on average eat 7.5 times the suggested amount of vegetables like potatoes and cassava.

The scientists admit their goal will be difficult to achieve. But for them doing nothing is also not an option. Willet said, " If we can't quite make it, it's better to try and get as close as we can.”

We discussed pushing them back to the shore, but we were too far out. We had to wait, trying to keep them on the bodyboards. Patting their faces to wake them up, we continuously told them to be strong. After what seemed a century, I felt extremely exhausted while swimming hard to keep myself afloat. Casting a look at Tom, I could tell he was also apparently worn-out. Looking at the vast sea, I felt a sense of fear surging through my whole body. Salt stinging my eyes, I could hardly tel how long I could hold on. But I still shouted in my head: focus. In sheer desperation, I finally caught sight of some boats with lifeguards on them heading towards us in the distance. Thank you, Lord. Quite soon, felt strong arms pull me out of the sea onto the board. That night word came from the hospital that the two kids were in good condition. Sighing in relief, I couldn't stop thinking about the whole event. I knew they would have died if they had been in the sea for any longer. Obviously I had done a big deal which is surely a good opportunity to show off. I had expected to experience some sort of sense of wellbeing or greatness, but none of that came. Rather than feel like a hero, I believe anyone who could swim would have done the same thing.

该篇续写主要记叙了年轻的作者和邻居To一起在海中救人的事迹。属于“脱困型”的续写文章。第一段重点介绍作者怎样救人的过程,学生可以有不同的救人方法;第二段根据文中的主题铺垫“I suppose in a way I wanted to impress everyone; at 19, a deal like that can seem like an opportunity to show off, 抒发作者救人后的感悟,尤其是突出不同于刚开始“想出风头”的想法,而是正面积极的精神升华。部分

学生也可能在第二段中记叙作者前往医院探望的情节发展。允许学生存在不同的解读,但如果第二段能有主题升华的文章相对在思维上会更胜一筹。

The entire class cheered as I walked back to Mark’s desk, removed the tape and shrugged my shoulders. His first words were, “Thank you for correcting me, Sister.”One day I decided to do something different when Mark talked again in class.

I asked the other students to think of the good things they could say about Mark and write them down. Then I listed them on a separate paper. The next day I gave it to Mark. “Really?”Before long I heard him whispering, The paper did work. Mark listened more and more carefully to my instruction from that day on. “Thank you so much for doing that,”The old man brought me back to earth. “As you can see, Mark treasured it.”He added. That was when I finally cried.

概要写作

An increasing number of Americans are becoming workaholics. They work extra hours every week to maintain their jobs and become financially successful. Even on holiday, modern communication technologies always connect them to work. Consequently workaholism breaks up their families and damages their health. Luckily, there is a lot one can do to make time away from work though it takes some effort, but anyway it's worthwhile to have a try.
