Body language is the unspoken communication we all use in every face-to-face meeting with others. Ninety-three percent of our everyday communication are non-verbal It can either have a positive or negative influence in the way people treat you, so you have to ensure you’re speaking with the right body language.

You’re probably asking yourself, “How do I change my body language to give a true representation(代表)of how I feel when I com municate with others?”

Start with the distance between you and the person with whom you’re speaking. If you get too close, people feel you’re too pushy. Too far-away, and you could be considered as cold.

The head position also says a lot. To show confidence or authority, simply keep your head level. This means, “Take me seriously, my words are important.”

Mouth movements are easy clues to what others may be feeling. If they purse(噘)their lips or twist them, they could be thinking carefully about what you just said, or disagreeing with you, but holding back comment.

The handshake is extremely important in communication with others. No one wants to shake a hand like a fool; meanwhi le, a handshake needn’t be a contest of strength. Many people also don’t quite know what to do with their hands after the handshake, especially when meeting someone new. They tend to hold their hands together, nervously.

So, keep your distance, head up and shake that hand. You too can learn to speak with fluent body language.

Successful hairdressers and beauty therapists (医学美容师) can take their pick from many top jobs —preparing supermodels, working on magazines and photo shoots, or tending to the rich and famous. What’s more, with the UK hairdressing and beauty therapy regarded as the best in the world, there are enough chances to travel internationally and show off your skills abroad.

However, hairdressing and beauty therapy aren’t just about glamour (魅力). They need hard work, if you want to grow from a salon trainee into an owner or a manager. The hours are long and sometimes tiring, but the rewards more than make up for (弥补) it.

After all, how many jobs give you the chance to try out new things each and every day? And how many jobs give you the very real chance to set up and run your own business well before your 30th birthday? How many jobs can make you so creative and confident?

Who becomes a hairdresser or beauty therapist?

Anyone of any age from any background can become a hairdresser or beauty therapist. Some people will have known since they were small that they wanted to be a hairdresser or beauty therapist. Others get into it much later. For example, Charles Worthington gave up a university degree course to become a hairdresser, and is now one of the best in the industry!

50. We know from this passage that ______.

A. anyone in the UK can become a supermodel

B. hairdressers and beauty therapists in the UK find the best job

C. hairdressing and beauty therapy are easy and interesting

D. everyone in the UK can become a boss or manager at 30

51. The author thinks hairdressing and beauty therapy are worth hard work because ______.

A. they need your hard work of many hours

B. they can give you the chance to try out new things each day

C. their rewards can be enough to make up for your hard work

D. they help you set up and run your own business

52. The third paragraph of this passage mainly talks about ______.

A. how many jobs people can do in the UK

B. what job can make you creative and confident

C. hairdressing and beauty therapy help set up your own business

53. If the author continues to write this passage, what may he write about?

A. How Charles Worthington became one of the best hairdressers.

B. Why Charles Worthington gave up a university degree course.

C. How a person can become one of the best hairdresser or beauty therapist.

D. Where Charles Worthington became a salon trainee and then successful.

Section C

Over the years I've been teaching children about a simple but powerful concept -- the ant philosophy (哲学).I think everybody should study ants.

They have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part: ants never quit. That's a good philosophy. (54) , they'll look for another way. They'll climb over, they'll climb under, and they'll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy, to never quit looking for a way to get where you're supposed to go.

(55) . That's an important viewpoint. You can't be so naive (天真的) as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering in their winter food in the middle of summer.

An ancient story says, "Don't build your house on the sand in the summer." Why do we need that advice.'? Because it is important to be realistic. In the summer, you've got to think storm. You've got to think rocks as you enjoy the sand and sun. Think ahead.

The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, "This won't last long; we'll soon be out of here." And on the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they'll dive back down. (56) . They can't wait to get out.

And here's the last part of the ant-philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All he possibly can. What an incredible philosophy, the "all-you-possibly-can" philosophy.

Wow, what a great seminar to attend -- the ant seminar. Never give up, look ahead, stay positive and do all you can.

I want to be a ….

Self-talk is a life skill you can use wherever you are, whenever you need it. The whole idea of talking to themselves seems strange to many people. Imagine your teacher saying, “For homework, talk to yourself for half an hour tonight.” You might think he is playing a joke on your class. Instead, adults teach kids all about talking to other people. There are many books on why, when, what and how to communicate with the rest of the world. Thus, you can grow up knowing a lot more about people around you than about yourself. It is good to speak and listen to others. But there is great value in making time to listen to yourself. When you do, you get to know yourself better. Along the way, you may discover the power you have for using words well. Such ideas are so exciting to psychologists that they have been trying to

Unit 1的内容围绕Look和See开展的,让学生在学习新单词frog, rabbit, bee, bird几种动物的同时,掌握What do you see? Unit 1 Look and see
